There is no single best mobile app for every company, but the strongest employee self-service apps let staff handle around 80% of routine needs themselves — applying for leave, checking balances, viewing and downloading payslips, submitting reimbursements, and updating personal details — without routing everything through HR. Judge an app by how much it removes from the HR queue, not by its feature list.
When comparing, test the app yourself during the demo: is the interface simple enough for non-technical and non-desk employees; does it work for field staff with GPS or geofenced attendance; are payslips and tax documents accessible; and does it support the workflows your employees use most. A capable self-service app is what keeps HR lean as headcount grows, so it deserves weight in the decision.
