How do I choose an HRMS if I’ve never used HR software before?

If you have never used HR software, start by listing the specific problems you want it to solve — typically payroll accuracy, attendance, leave, and compliance — then evaluate tools against that list rather than being drawn in by feature breadth. A focused set of needs keeps the decision manageable and prevents over-buying.

From there: shortlist two or three cloud options known for ease of use and Indian compliance; take demos and run your own simple scenarios through them; check that pricing is transparent and scales with headcount; confirm implementation support is included; and speak to a reference customer of similar size. Prioritise simplicity and good onboarding support for a first system — a tool your team can actually adopt matters more than the longest feature list.
