Reputable HR software handles statutory updates by maintaining the current rules for deductions and contributions — PF, ESI, TDS, professional tax — and updating its calculation logic when the government revises rates, slabs, or definitions, so payroll stays aligned without manual reconfiguration. The vendor effectively absorbs the work of tracking regulatory change.
This is particularly valuable during periods of change such as the current transition to the new labour codes, where wage definitions and contribution bases are shifting. That said, automatic updates depend on the vendor keeping the system current and on the employer keeping its own configuration accurate, so it reduces compliance effort and risk rather than removing the need for oversight. Confirming how and how quickly a vendor pushes out regulatory updates is a sensible evaluation question.
